A Concept Plan to accompany a planning application to build a house in a Conservation Area and significant site within a coastal town. The site, originally part of the large garden of an Edwardian house, gently slopes towards the shore, with panoramic views over Morecambe Bay.
The brief from the client was for the design to be sympathetic to the area. The planting must provide a natural barrier to blend the new building into the landscape, whilst framing the dramatic views over the bay.
Naturalistic planting was carefully selected to complement the existing mature trees and shrubs which were to be retained throughout the site. A mix of indigenous and ornamental trees, shrubs and plants, form a matrix around the site. This enables the boundaries to blend between the garden and the borrowed landscape.
Additional curved borders have been created around the house to soften the lines of the building, allowing it to sit naturally within the landscape, giving the house a sense of permanence.
